Earl Lee Rodgers was born April 11, 1931 to the union of McKinley (Mack) Rodgers and Racheal (Bee) Rowell-Rodgers in Sikeston Missouri. Although not an active member of church he was a true believer in Jesus Christ. After high school Earl enlisted into the US Air Force where he served a year of duty in the Medical Corp. During that year he became a notable lightweight boxer. After being Honorable discharged from the Air Force Earl returned to Chicago IL and studied at the Chicago school of Medicine to become a Doctor. He then decided to study Mortuary science with aspiration of becoming a Mortician. Earl also worked as a Furniture Sales Representative. He was also a Sales Representative for the Winston Salem cigarette company. After leaving Chicago Earl returned to Danville IL where he provided support throughout the community. He assisted with establishing Social Security claims as well as Disability Compensation claims. His hobbies were Painting houses, The study of Law, and baseball. He loved the Chicago cubs and his favorite color was blue.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Wife Mary Rodgers, Daughter; Challette L. "Let" Jones Brothers; Paul Rodgers, Roy Rodgers, LC Homes, Dan Rodgers, Charles Rodgers, Mac Arthur Rodgers, Sisters; Earleen Rose, Evelyn Harrison, Francis Anderson, Christen Patterson, and a special Nephew James Rodgers.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his children; Cedric Jones, Sherri Johnson, William and Terrance Rudy. Brother Ernest (Stebaby) Rodgers of Texas, Sister in law Bonnie Rodgers of Milwaukee, WI and Odessa Rodgers of Chicago, IL. Cherished nieces and nephews, Constance Rodgers, Terry (Grip) Rodgers, Gail Rodgers, Steven (Jeffery) Rodgers, Betty Wheeler and Lee Rodgers. Special cousins, Bobby and Loretta Clark, Jerome Gates, Lisa and Gonzales Smith, Glen Rowell, Tonya and A.D. Patton, Loraine Coffey, William and Opal Salter. And a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence 12:00 noon Saturday, March 16. 2019 at St .Synagogue C.O.G.I.C. 2605 E. Main St. Danville. Il. a visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Officiating: Pastor Frank McCullough. Interment will be at Danville National Cemetery. A Public Viewing will be from 1 to 5 pm. Friday March 15, 2019 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St.
