William "Billy" LC Dumas, Jr, ,76, entered into eternal rest and peace, on Thursday, April 16, 2026, early in the morning at home. Billy was born in Danville, Illinois, on April 2, 1950, the eldest child of William LC Dumas, Sr, and Helen Louise Patterson Dumas. He was fondly known by numerous names “Billy D,” “Homes,” “Fly”,” Coach Dumas” Uncle Billy”,” Brother Billy,” “Grandpa,” and “Bill” by his family and friends. He was our Gentle Giant. Billy knew no stranger. Billy is the proud father of two sons.
Billy was educated in the Danville school system and graduated from Danville High School in 1969. He was employed at General Motors Central Foundry in Tilton, Illinois and retired after over 30 years of service. He was a member of UAW 579 and served on the Welfare Committee. Billy confessed his love of God and was baptized at Second Baptist Church. He was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church, and currently served as President of the Trustee Board, and Usher Board. Billy was a member of Corinthians Lodge # 31 in Danville, Illinois, also a member of Menelik Consistory #49 in Springfield, Illinois, and Sudan Temple #93. He served as past potentate of Sudan Temple #93.
Billy loved playing all types of sport. Billy was an excellent basketball player, and many years ago he played with a semi-professional basketball team out of Decatur, Illinois. He played baseball, Lincoln Park youth football, tennis, and golf. He was a member of the Da’villenz Golf Club. He was a hunter and fisherman. Billy enjoyed his vegetable garden, dancing, listening to music, playing cards, cooking, barbecuing, and talking. Billy loved his family.
He leaves to cherish his memory his two sons, Jason Prowell, Sr and William LC Dumas ,III of San Diego, California ,three brothers: Robert (Joyce) Dumas, David Dumas of Danville, Illinois, and Daniel Dumas of San Bernardino, California, three sisters: Carla Dumas of Danville, Illinois, Marcia (Tom) Mason of Williston, Tennessee, and Lynn Greewade of LaVerne, California, four grandchildren: Jason Prowell, Jr, Ranice Dumas, William LC Dumas, IV and Brandon Dumas, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Patrick Kelly Dumas, his grandparents, Albert and Ethel Dupree Dumas and Alfred and Nellie Lovan Patterson. The family wishes to express a special thank you to Minister Marcie Fultz, Olivia Walker, Ray Hillman, Shellie, and Elisha from the OSF hospital, and Tim Leek.
The family is requesting in lieu of flowers donations be made to the William LC Dumas, Jr Educational Scholarship at Second Baptist Church 940 Franklin Street Danville, Il 61832.

A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon Wednesday April 29, 2026 at Second Baptist Church, 940 N. Frankliin St. Danville. Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday April 28, at the church with the family present from 3 p.m to 6 p.m. Eulogist: Presiding Elder Tyson Parks. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery.
