Viola "Little Vi" Thomas

Viola “Little Vi” Thomas was born on August 16, 1960, in Danville, Illinois, to Sidney Thomas Sr. and Viola Thomas. Affectionately known by many as “Little Vi,” she peacefully departed this life on May 18, 2026.

Viola was a lifelong resident of Danville, Illinois, though she spent part of her adult years living in Indianapolis, Indiana. Eventually, she returned home to Danville, where she continued building lasting relationships within the community she loved.

She attended Danville public schools and proudly graduated from Danville High School as a member of the Class of 1978. Viola later worked for several years as a dedicated team member at Walmart Department Store.

Viola was a frequent visitor of Tabernacle of Praise Church and held great admiration for the leadership of Bishop Barry Elliott and First Lady Shirley Elliott. Although she was a woman of few words, Viola expressed her love through quiet moments shared with family and friends.

From an early age, Viola developed a passion for cooking. She enjoyed spending time in the kitchen with her mother and grandmother, trying new recipes and perfecting cherished family dishes. Those special moments became memories she treasured deeply. She also loved listening to music and attending church services.

Viola leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Terri Thomas of Danville, Illinois, and Jessica Thomas of Danville, Illinois; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Sidney Jr. (Maurece) Thomas of Danville, Illinois; her sisters, Artilla Thomas of Morton, Illinois, and Patreice (David) Harper of Danville, Illinois; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She also leaves behind a very special person affectionately known as “Aunt Shirley.”

Viola was preceded in death by her beloved son, Terryus Thomas; her parents, Sidney Thomas Sr. and Viola Thomas; her sister, Brenda Taylor; and her niece, Sabrina Nelson-Thomas.

Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
