Victor Maurice Campbell or as he was affectionately known as “Reece” was born on February 27, 1962, to the union of Catherine and Eddie J. Campbell Jr. in Champaign, Illinois.
At a young age, Victor accepted Christ as his lord and personal savior. At that time, he joined Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. W.B. Keaton where he was a faithful Sunday School and Choir Member and he also served on the Usher Board.
In 1980, Victor Campbell graduated from Champaign Central High School where he was a standout football player and a talented vocalist. Victor was also recognized for his self-taught engineering skills and his love for math.
After graduating from high school, Victor enlisted into the United States Army. During this period, Victor resided in several places while on assignment and gained a lot of valuable skills. His time in Germany, however, was his most memorable time in the military. While serving our country, Victor received the following accommodations and qualifications: Army Service Ribbon; Oversees Service Ribbon; First Class Qualification Badge with emphasis in Hand Grenade and the Sharpshooter Qualification Badge with emphasis in M-16 usage.
After returning home from the military, Victor went on to secure employment as a mail processor/ sorter for the United States Post Office.
Later on, Victor relocated to Chicago IL where he became a member of Gospel Way Covenant Church under the leadership of Rev. William M. Watts, Sr. It was while under the leadership of Reverand Watts, that Victor Maurice answered his call and began his journey to become a minister. While serving at Gospel Way Covenant Church, Victor was actively involved with the Youth Ministry, the Food Pantry, and the Street Outreach Ministry. Despite the many health challenges that Victor was going through, he always found time to give thanks and worship the Lord. He would often be heard saying, “The Joy Of The Lord Is My Strength.”
Victor loved spending his free time serving others. He had a gentle spirit, and he was the type that never met a stranger. He would go without, so that he could be a blessing to someone else in need. Victor enjoyed cooking, listening to music, reading his Bible, and building electronics from scratch (he was gifted in this area). Back in the day, Victor was known as the “sounddoctor” because he would build the most amazing sound equipment by hand.
On Tuesday August 29, 2023, Victor Maurice went home to be reunited with his mother and his sister. He is now safe in his Father’s arms - “To God Be The Glory!”
