Troy L. Sutton, age 60, was born on June 18, 1965, in Decatur, Illinois. On Monday, December 1, 2025, he peacefully transitioned from this life.
Troy was a proud graduate of Eisenhower High School, where he enjoyed playing basketball. He went on to serve his country in the United States Army from May 1986 to November 1989. Following his service, Troy built a successful 28-year career as a semi-truck driver and later became the owner and operator of T&P Sutton Logistics, a business he proudly ran alongside his beloved wife, Patricia Sutton.
A man with many talents, Troy found joy in music and especially loved playing his bass guitar, affectionately named Earl Sutton in honor of his grandfather. His greatest spiritual milestone came in November 2005 when he gave his life to the Lord at New Birth Church of God in Christ. There, he became a dedicated member and deacon. On March 10, 2006, married the love of his life, Patricia A. McNeal Sutton.
Though soft-spoken, Troy carried a deep love for his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life, and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them.
In his quiet moments, Troy enjoyed relaxing on his backyard patio, tending to his space, listening to music, and keeping his cherished truck, Big Papa, polished and shining.
Troy was born to Lucille Sutton and James Thomas Taylor Sr., and was lovingly raised by his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Orr. He is survived by his siblings April Sutton (Steve), Dewayne Kirk (Kirsten), Shawn Jones (Leslie), James Thomas Taylor Jr., Montelle Taylor, Florence Taylor, Margaret Taylor, Loretta Taylor, Ashley Jones and Darrell Merriweather.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Patricia A. Sutton (“The Queen”), his daughter Tralana Sutton, his stepdaughter Andrea Heard (Robert), his adoring grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends.
Troy is preceded in death by his grandparents Dorothy and Earl Sutton, his foster parents Mr. and Mrs. Orr, his nephew Devin Kirk, his niece Raeven Saylor (Patterson), and his father James Thomas Taylor Sr.
Troy Sutton will be remembered for his steady spirit, his loyalty to family, and the quiet strength with which he lived his life. His love, legacy, and kindness will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
