Tommie Davis Obituary

Tommie Lee Davis, 74, of Detroit, MI, peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at DMC-Harper University Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on January 24, 1951, in Bogalusa, Louisiana, to Tommie Edward and Claire Bell Davis, Tommie grew up with a strong sense of family, faith, and perseverance—values that shaped his life and career.

In 1994, he married the love of his life, Felisa Stewart, and together they built a legacy of love, commitment, and unwavering support for their two sons, Tommie Edward Davis of Auburn Hills, MI, and Donovan Leon Davis of Detroit, MI. In 2019, Tommie and Felisa renewed their vows in celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary, marking a blessed union that spanned over three decades.

A man of dedication and hard work, Tommie embarked on a distinguished career with General Motors in 1973 as a U.A.W. Local 22 member, firmly believing in the power of strong unions to strengthen America. He later retired in 2010 after 37 years of service at Delphi in Livonia, Michigan. His drive for success extended beyond the auto industry, as he obtained his Michigan real estate license and became a respected realtor with Century 21 Elegant Homes in Southfield.

Tommie was a proud graduate of Danville High School, class of 1968. His passion for sports was evident throughout his youth, where he excelled in football, track and field, and wrestling. A natural athlete, he was frequently recognized for his outstanding performances, earning accolades such as “All-State Back” in high school and the “Golden Helmet Award” in college. His exceptional talent on the field earned him a full athletic scholarship to Northern Michigan University, where he played as a standoutrunning back for the Wildcats.

While his football career was cut short due to injury, Tommie’s resilience never wavered. He later completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, demonstrating his unwavering determination to succeed.

During his time at NMU, Tommie became a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., forging lifelong bonds of brotherhood. He carried that same sense of camaraderie and leadership into every aspect of his life. Beyond his professional and athletic achievements, Tommie had an undeniable gift for music. His rich, anointed voice often filled the room with gospel hymns, Tommie was a member of  the Mount Zion Baptist Church, and sang in the male chorus throughout his youth. a reflection of his deep faith and love for the Lord. One of his favorite songs, Frank Sinatra’s My Way, was a fitting anthem for the way he lived—on his own terms, with confidence, grace, and an unshakable sense of purpose.

Tommie was known for his sharp mind, engaging conversations, and ability to debate any topic with passion and conviction. Whether discussing history, current events, or life lessons, he left an impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. 

Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and mentor who instilled values of faith, hard work, and perseverance in those he loved.

Tommie leaves behind a legacy of love and wisdom, cherished by his family, friends, and loved ones.

Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

A celebration of life will commence at 12:00 noon Friday February 21, 2025 at New Life Church of Faith 1419 N. Bowman Ave. A visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service.
