Thomas Goings, Sr., was born in Leland, Mississippi, on December 11, 1927. He died peacefully in his sleep on November 7, 2024, at 5:30 p.m., surrounded by his children and companion.
Thomas relocated to Danville, IL, at an early age and remained there throughout his life. He retired from the Maintenance Department at the Danville Housing Authority in 1993 and enjoyed 31 years of retirement doing whatever he wanted.
Everybody knew “Tom” from Elks Lodge 147. He greeted visitors and partygoers for many years at the Lodge. Tom was also a Master Mason in Corinthian Lodge #31.
Thomas leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Jeri (Joseph) Smith; son, Thomas (Sandra) Goings, Jr.; longtime, loving and faithful companion, Josephine Ungler; grandchildren, Stacey, Anthony, Nicole, Edward, Anthony (Boogie); nieces, Mary, Tracy and Nancy; special Goddaughter, Judy Criss; and, a host of great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends throughout Danville.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Fanny Mary Porter and Willie Goings; daughter, Evonda Goings; sister, Alberta Collins; niece, Barbara Allen; nephews, Peter, Tommie, and Terry.
The family wishes to share Tom’s beautiful end-of-life moment: A few hours before passing, Tom looked up at the ceiling in the bedroom in which he was staying. He said, “Somebody loves me.” His daughter asked, “Who loves you Daddy” and Tom replied, “Jesus"
A celebration of life will commence at 12:00 Noon Friday November 15, 2024 at New Life Church of Faith 1419 N. Bowman Ave. Eulogist: Pastor Thomas W. Miller. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of service. Interment: Springhill Cemetery.
