The life & legacy of Thelma L Shaw
Thelma Louise Shaw was born December, 18 1937 to Mr & Mrs O.W. Hawkins Sr. in Byromville, Georgia. She was the fifth of seven children.
Thelma attended schools in Byromville as a child, & was baptized there as well. She married W.T.Shaw & moved to Lincoln Nebraska. In 1977 she moved back to Byromville. She later relocated to Atlanta Georgia where she lived for many years. Thelma worked in several restaurants as a cook in Atlanta. She moved to Champaign Illinois in 1998.
Thelma was a mother to 6 children. 3 of her children preceded her in death. Thelma enjoyed cooking & was well known for her sweet potato pie. She enjoyed fishing, gardening & played a mean game of cards.
Thelma was the grandmother of 5, the Great Grandmother (GG) to 11, & Great Great Grandmother of 2. She loved taking her Great Grandchildren on trips on the MTD buses to go shopping, & cooking their favorite meals.
Thelma leaves to cherish her with fond memories her daughter Linda (Gail) Hawkins of Champaign Illinois, son Tommy L. Shaw of Chamble Georgia, & son Lonnie (Bo) Shaw of Vienna Georgia. Brothers O.W Hawkins, & John Hawkins (Gloria) of Atlanta Georgia. Sister in law Marion Hawkins of Decatur Georgia. Her grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends.
Celebration of Life 12’noon Tuesday Feb. 25 at Macedonia Baptist Church, CHAMPAIGN. Visitation at 11’am until the start of service. Officiating Pastor D.L. Jenkins. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.
