Tennie Michele “Shelley” affectionately known as “Shel Dogg” Smith was called home early in the morning on April 14th, 2026. Shelley was born on November 27th, 1955, in Danville, Illinois to William Tennie Smith and Delores Enoex.
Shelley was an in-home caregiver taking special care of her cousin Charlene. Throughout her life she was also a bus driver for Community Action Head Start and worked at the YWCA Women’s Shelter. She also spent time in the Job Corps. and earned a degree in Applied Sciences from Danville Area Community College.
Shelley had a heart of gold with an infectious and gregarious laugh. She never met a stranger; a gifted reader who enjoyed the art of conversation and playing Scrabble. She also enjoyed music and movies with comedies and animated works, notably Disney films, being her favorites. In July of 1981 she gave birth to her only child who she named Davi’d Dimique’, they formed an everlasting bond through love, their many similarities and affinity for the same things.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Delores Enoex, and father, William Tennie Smith. She is survived by her son Davi’d (WylLanda) Smith, Sr. Sisters Paulette Enoex Edwards, Celestia Enoex Maddox, and Darian Taylor. Brothers Paul (Mitch) Enoex, II and Arvis Smith. She leaves a legacy behind with her grandchildren Siutanya, Audrey, Davi’d, Jr., Dominique’ and Darian Smith. She also leaves behind special cousins Marcus Ross and Charlene Williams and her honorary grandkids. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and many other loved ones. She may have only had one child, but she was a mother to many and will be greatly missed.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon Saturday April 25, 2026 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St. Danville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Eulogist: Pastor Ricky Hoskins.
