On August 23, 2020 Tekyra Shanae Algee, affectionally known as “TK” peacefully transitioned at Carle Foundation Hospital at 1:30pm surrounded by family and friends. TK was born on September 20, 1986 to Sharon Mullins and Larry Algee. TK was baptized at an early age at Morningstar Freewill Baptist Church under Bishop Jimmie O. Holmes where she served on the Junior Usher Board, Youth department and choir. TK later joined Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Women’s of Purpose Ladies Group. TK graduated from Central High School in 2006 and furthered her education at Concept Cosmetology School where she received her Cosmetology License. TK’s employment included working as a manager at Taco Bell, and as a packer at FedEx until her health declined. TK loved her jewelry and was an independent consultant for Paparazzi where she sold TK’s Passion Jewelry. In May 2019, TK was honored by the Church of Women United for her faithfulness as a young Christian woman. TK had a beautiful smile that would brighten up the room. TK was very soft spoken and loved by all.
TK leaves to cherish her mother and stepfather Sharon and Robert Mullins. Her father and stepmother Larry and Jean Algee. Two sons, Shameer D. Stump and Xyaire L. Algee. Six brothers, Tyree Mullins, Joseph Mullins, Jeffrey Dunn, Martez Dunn and Marquan Dunn all of Champaign, IL and Robert Mullins III of Virginia. Three sisters, Brittany Algee, Tina Mullins, and Kim Mullins all of Champaign, IL. Seven aunts, Lequita Christmon, and Linda Algee, Champaign, IL. Barbara McGee, Betty Sue Sayles, and Alice Burton, Urbana, IL. Tiffany Brown, California and Katherine Chavis, Memphis, TN. Two uncles, Rodney Brown, Champaign, IL and Lawrence Jackson, Urbana, IL. Loving grandmothers Diane Brown and Marie Byrd, Urbana, IL and Great grandmother Annie Pierce, Champaign, IL. Two Godmothers Linda Ratliff and Evangelist Louise VanDyke. Two best friends Ernyka Blanson and her cousin Dayanna Christmon and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. TK is proceeded in death by her paternal grandparents Mozell and Earlis Avant and LC Jackson, and maternal grandfather James Murriel.
A celebration of life will commence at noon Friday September 4, 2020, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 1215 W. Bradley, Urbana. Officiating Pastor Keith L. Thomas. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow after at Woodlawn Cemetery.
