Stanley Eugene Smith

June 8, 1965 ~ June 2, 2022 (age 56)

Obituary

Stanley Eugene Smith, 56, transitioned to everlasting life on June 2, 2022 at Carle Hospital in Urbana, IL. Stanley was born in Champaign, IL on June 8, 1965, to Bernell and James Walter Smith and was the third child born to this union.
He was a graduate of Urbana High School, where he participated in the sport he loved, track and field. It was in this sport and school that he held records in the triple jump for many years. He accepted Christ at a young age at Pilgrim Baptist Church.
Known as “Stan The Man” by many throughout the community, he was the proud father of two sons, grandfather of two, and father figure to many other children as he graced the world. Stanley married in 2011 to Kenedra eventually parting their separate ways in 2014. He also shared a special interest with friend Shay Cox until his departure.
Stanley invested his time working at University of Illi- nois for the last twenty years. He also worked for ABC Sanitary Hauling and Willis Sanitary Hauling Inc for many years prior. Stanley also assisted his “twin” sister Sonya Pickens at the restaurant known throughout the community as “Pickens Chicken Restaurant.” Many would have seen him as trying to be the boss of the restaurant, as he passionately helped those he loved. Stanley’s true passion was fishing and barbequing. If you knew him, you would know that he believed his food was the best in town. On any given day, Stanley would fire up the grill for his family and friends. Stanley loved being around family. Many that knew him would
experience the lighthearted side of him as he would try to convince others of his own made-up stories. Lastly, Stanley loved to give advice to help others. He was well known by many, if not everyone, and that is one reason why he was so special.
Stanley leaves behind to cherish his memories: his wife Kenedra; his sons: Michael (Alysia) Ammons of Charlotte, NC, and Stanley Eugene Smith Jr. of Urba- na, IL; one brother: Byron (Simone) Smith of Urbana, IL; Six sisters: Sheila White of St. Paul, MN, Pierre Louise Thomas of Hampton, VA, Pam White of Phoe- nix, AZ, Janet Denise Smith, Eyvonne (Larry) Sallee, and Sonya Pickens all of Urbana, IL; Uncles: Patrick Mann of Urbana, IL and Johnny Westly Manning of Champaign, IL; Grandchildren: Amya and Tristan Am- mons; and, a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his Father, James Walter (Tall Man) Smith
