Simeon Luther Edwards, a long-time resident of Danville, passed away peacefully after an extended illness, while living in a skilled nursing facility in Oakwood, Village, Ohio (a suburb of Cleveland) He was the first of five children born to the union of Rev. Simeon Edwards and Edna Edwards.
During his early years, he attended Danville Public Schools. He was later enrolled in a program for special needs teenagers in Carbondale, Illinois. As a young adult; he received a certificate of completion in a sheltered workshop in Danville.
He was later employed at McDonalds Restaurant, where worked for approximately 28 years. The employees and regulars customers were familiar with his broad smile, laughter, and pleasant attitude.
He enjoyed leisure activities including constructing pictures puzzles, listening to professional baseball games on the radio and keeping up with basketball games on television. He was baptized at an early age and rarely missed Sunday worship services for several decades. While living in Danville, he was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Union Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Georgetown and Antioch Baptist Church. While affiliated with the First Baptist Church of Georgetown and Antioch Baptist Church, he coordinated the audio video ministry.
After relocating to Ohio, he became a member of the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church of Cleveland where he was a member at the time of his passing.
As his health began to decline, he relocated from Danville to the Cleveland, Ohio area where he lived with his youngest brother, Andrew. While living in the Cleveland area, he was active in the Oakwood Village Senior Center. He participated in centers’ programs weekly until his continued deteriorating health required admission to a skilled nursing facility.
He leaves to mourn him, three brothers, one sister, and their spouses, Marvin (Carolyn) of Wayne, Illinois, Calvin (Donna) of Elgin, Illinois, Andrew (Anna) of Oakwood, Village, Ohio. and Norma (Ronald Merriweather of Madison Alabama. Other members of the extended family includes 12 nieces and nephews, 14 grand nieces and nephews as well as numerous others relatives. His parents preceded him in death.
A Home Going Celebration was held on February 15, 2020 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, Danville.
