Sandra Hatchett Obituary

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me”
Philippians 4:13

On the first day of December 1940 Sandra Louise Turner Hatchett was born to the union of Margaret Elizabeth “Sally” Maxey (3/3/1924-1/15/1994) and Arthur Lee Turner (3/29/1886-3/18/1949) who both preceded her in death.

Sandra grew up in Chicago, Illinois with her younger brother Gerald Turner (9/3/1942-7/3/1981) which she was very fond of. Growing up her mom “Sally” worked hard to provide for Sandra and Gerald . Sandra did her part by keeping the household up and taking care of Gerald.

Methodism was her religious practice. She would attend Methodist churches occasionally but knew she didn’t need a religious home to be true to herself or praise the Lord .
Sandra attended Lucy Flowers Highschool on the westside of Chicago, where she continued to show her hard work and independence.

Sandra was very smart and although she understood the value of an education she also knew the value of a dollar. She knew it was nothing like having your own. At the age of 15 and with the help of her mother’s sister Ruby Maxey(1918-12/31/1992),Sandra began working in laundries across Chicago to provide for herself.

On October 17, 1968 Sandra married Harrison Hatchett . For the majority of the marriage they were separated . In the winter of 2006 Sandra began the divorce. By early spring 2007 her divorce was final.

July 16, 1976 Sandra had her only child Vernette Byrd with Floyd Byrd (8/23/1935-6/1/1992).

Sandra relocated to Danville, Il in March 2003 . Where she continued to devote her life to her daughter and 7 grandkids.
December 23, 2021 at 12:23 p.m. Kaywon Lafayette (grandson), Gerald(brother), Margaret “Sally”(mother), Arthur(father), and many others assisted and welcomed Sandra into her eternal home.

Although she has left her earthly presence she leaves behind a legacy through her family. Her daughter Vernette Byrd of Chicago, IL. A niece Lun Ya Woods of Chicago, IL. Two great nieces Geneva Allen and Theresea Waters. Two granddaughters Rosie Marshall of Chicago, IL and Rosalyn Byrd of Danville , IL . Five grandsons Kevin Marshall Jr of Danville, IL , Gerald Marshall of Danville, IL , Kaywon LaFayette Marshall of Chicago, IL ( 2/28/94-11/22/95) , Kaywon Maaleak Marshall of Danville, IL and Marcus Jones of Chicago, IL. A slew of great grandchildren LaKena Matthews (Rosie), Aurion McClendon(Rosalyn), Ke’Nya Matthews(Rosie), Rhianna Matthews(Rosie), Adreonna Matthews(Rosie), Armand Glover(Rosalyn), Kevin Marshall  (Kevin), Kenny Matthews Jr(Rosie), Kataleya Staine(Kaywon Maaleak), Rashaad Patterson(Rosie), Ria Royalty Patterson(Rosie), Nia Reign Patterson(Rosie).

Of course we needed 81 more years with her , but the Lord said it was time to receive the fruits of this labor called life. Her wings , throne , family have waited for her long enough. Have no sorrow because the joy and peace she is now in is well deserved.

Our beloved angle is now basking in eternity !
