Ruth Henderson

Ruth Henderson, 96, of Gary, IN moved to Urbana, IL in 2021. Sister Henderson went to be with the Lord on May 28, 2022. She was born to Philip and Fanny Sand- ers on September 2, 1925 of Epps, AL. She was preced- ed in death by her two brothers, Richard and William Sanders; and, her three sisters, Annie Laura, Catherine and Corrina Sanders.

Ruth worked hard most of her young life as a share- cropper in Epps, AL. Later on in life, Sister Henderson moved away from her hometown to explore other life ventures.

Ruth married Johnnie Henderson on January 23, 1946 in Tuscaloosa, AL. Later moving to Gary, IN to start a family and raise three loving children born to this un- ion. Ruth and Johnnie were married for 50 years before Johnnie transitioned to be with the lord in 1997.

Ruth worked hard to provide for her family for years. Sister Ruth worked various jobs before landing a job at Lincoln Carry Out, a local restaurant in Gary, IN. After 28 years of outstanding service, Ruth retired in 1998.

Ruth enjoyed listening to music from various artists like BB King, Al Green, The 5 Blind Boys and other gospel artists. She loved watching Wheel of Fortune and keep- ing up with the news. Sister Ruth enjoyed cooking for her family and loved the Lord.

Ruth is survived by her three children, Johnnie Hender- son and Patricia Parker both of Las Vegas, NV, and Di-
ane Robinson of Urbana, IL.; Johnnie’s children: Julian, Angel, Shanda, Johnny Jr. and Kelly; Patricia’s children: Quinnelle, Jasmine and Shavon; and, Diane’s children: Tanissa, Tiffany and Michael. Sister Ruth also had 29 great-grandchildren.

She also leaves behind to cherish her memory several loving nieces, nephews, and close family and friends whom she loved unconditionally.

A Homegoing Celebration will commence 12:00 Noon Saturday June 11, 2022 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 1215 W. Bradley Ave, Urbana. A visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service.
