Roy Ivy Sr. 77 of Champaign passed this life on Monday March 6, 2023. He was born November 3, 1945, in Jackson, Tennessee, to the late James and Gertrude Ivy. Roy attended Merry High School in Jackson, Tennessee. After graduation, Roy enlisted in the United States Army, where he served for three years in the Vietnam War. After his years of service in the military, Roy would continue his government service by working for the U.S. Postal Service. Roy continously sought to better his life, and further his educational pursuits. He obtained an associates degree at Jackson State Community College before continuing to the honorable HBCU, Lane College. Roy not only sought to pursue a secular education, but embarked upon a spiritual journey. For many years, he faithfully attended New Hope Baptist Church in Jackson, Tennessee. It was there, Roy would confess his hope in Christ. Roy later moved to Champaign Illinois and became a member of Macedonia Baptist Church under Pastor D. L. Jenkins. 

 

Roy was preceded in death by: his parents James and Gertrude Barnes Ivy; his elder brother John Wesley Stewart; his loving and devoted sister, Mable Knight; a cherished niece, Jameka Merriweather; Two nephews Kenneth Stewart, James Ivy Jr. and, a beloved sister-in-law Gloria Ivy. 

 

Roy's life will always be remembered by those who knew him best and loved him most. He leaves his wife Shelia Jackson-Ivy;  Eleven children: Roy Ivy Jr. (Janet) of Murfreesboro, TN, Vanessa Ivy McCurdy (Darnell), Dr. Zaneta Ivy Bailey (Andrew) of Memphis, TN, Ericil Ivy Cole ofJackson, TN, Sabu Pemberton ( Carolyn) of Richmond Virginia, Demarcus “DJ” Ivy (Erica) of Texas, Angela Ivy Miles (Anthony) of Manteno, Illinois, Zanas Ivy (Brittney) of Folsom California, Antron Ivy of Georgia, Quincy Ivy of Milan TN, Bonita Ivy of Urbana Illinois. Two brothers, Russell and James Ivy (Marvelene) of Rhode Island, Carolyn Ivy Merriweather (Joe) of Memphis. Thirty-Five grandchildren, Forty- Eight Great-Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. His life, as was his quiver were full.

 

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon Friday March 17, 2023 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 304 E. Williams St, Danville. Officiating: Elder Roy Ivy Jr. Burial will follow after service at Danville National Cemetery.
