Rosemary Summers Obituary

Rosemary Summers, 78, of Danville, Illinois went to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at 9:44 am. She was born on June 17, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan. She was adopted by Curtis and Olivia Summers, and was raised in Danville, Illinois with her adoptive family. Rosemary attended Danville, Illinois public schools.

Throughout her life, Rosemary loved to play cards, dominoes, bingo and watch her favorite television shows, which included the soap operas, “The Young and the Restless”, “All My Children” and “General Hospital. She also enjoyed competitivementally stimulating shows such as “The Price is Right”, “Jeopardy” and “Wheel of Fortune”. She loved to cook and is most famous for her delicious egg rolls. Rosemary loved to have a good time, attend various events and be outdoors where she would stop and engage in conversation with everyone she knew, often asking how they were doing. She was very close with her children and grandchildren whom she spent a lot of time with.

Rosemary, affectionately known as “Rose” was always very giving and helpful to others. She would give the shirt off her back and if she did not have it to give, she would ultimately find a way. Rosemary helped raise many individuals beyond her birth children and opened her home as a safe space for many young children and adults that did not have family to support them throughout her life. She often had many guests at her home, where family and friends often gathered and socialized throughout the day and evening. While not financially rich, Rosemary was the epitome of what it means to live a wealthy life. She gave and received lots of love. Her family and friends brought her profound love and joy, all whom will miss herdeeply.

Rosemary was survived by her life partner of 36 years Gary Patton, Danville, IL; 6 children, daughter Dezima Daniels, Champaign, IL; daughter Anyya (Abdulahi) Summers-Olajire, Rosenberg, TX; son Lourengo (Ardis-Denise) Summers, Atlanta, GA; daughter LaShauna Summers, Danville, IL; son Kareen Summers, Danville, IL; and daughter Tamara Summers, Danville, IL. She has 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her adoptive parents Curtis and Olivia Summers; her daughter Curtia Summers and one grandchild Davonte L. Summers.
