Robert Charles ”Dyke” Lucas 73, transitioned to be with his heavenly father at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday June 8 2022, at Hawthorn Care in Danville surrounded by his family.
Robert was born on June 30, 1948, in Danville Illinois to Charles Buchanan and Bertha Lucas-Sanders along with Jesse “Big Shake” Sanders. Robert was the eldest of four siblings.
During his teenage years Robert had a passion for singing and formed a singing group called “Dyke and the Dutchess. The Dutchess included Carolyn Wade-Willis, Ruby Reed-Dandridge, and Linda Wade-Lucas. Robert was known for his signature high pitched falsetto voice mimicking Gene Chandler and Smokey Robinson.
Robert attended Danville public schools and attended Danville Area Community College, to take electrician classes. Robert was employed at General Motors where he retired. He also worked for Edwards Properties in maintenance.
Robert married the love of his life, Linda Wade-Lucas of 47 years. They shared three wonderful children: Suzanne “Susie”, Shannon, and David.
Robert accepted Christ at an early age. He was a faithful member for 35 years at New Life Church of Faith and served as a deacon and usher under the leadership of his brother and sister in love Pastor Thomas and First Lady Beverly Miller.
Roberts Hobbies were repairing things around the house and he enjoyed assisting others with their home projects. Robert was a kind, gentle, loving, soft spoken man. His smile came with pureness that he held in his heart.
He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He would teach them about the love of God.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory to his loving wife Linda Wade-Lucas, one daughter Suzanne “Susie” Lucas of Danville IL, two sons Shannon Carey of Danville IL, and David K. (Tonya) Carey of Indianapolis IN. Two brothers Craig Sanders and Kenneth Sanders both of Danville IL. Two sisters Alice “Nicey” Sanders of Danville IL and Karen Sanders of Houston TX. 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and one son Curtis Anthony Lucas.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon Thursday June 16, 2022 at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Ave. Eulogist: Pastor Thomas Miller. A visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow after at Springhill Cemetery.
