Robert Hunter Obituary

Robert Charles Hunter passed on Monday, April 4, 2022 at Advocate Trinity Hospital in Chicago, IL. Robert was the 10th child born to Ellis and Blanche (Davis) Hunter.

He graduated from Danville High School and enlisted in the Marines, where he served for three years. After the Marines, he moved to Chicago and lived with his sister Louise. Robert loved working with his hands so he signed up for Barber School.

Robert had a love for money. He soon opened up his own Barber Shop, where Jesse Jackson was a regular customer. Many people passed through the shop and always got an ear full from him and a good laugh. He was a Barber for over 60 years. Even when he retired, he still went into work, just to chat with the people. Robert also opened a laundromat on 53rd Street in Chicago.

Robert married Minnie Goolsby in 1967, that union came with three small boys, Derry, Dannier and Drayton. Robert raised the boys as his own. He decided to open a restaurant and club in Danville. The place was called Roberts. It was located on VanBuren and Washington. All the family worked there. Robert’s famous words at the club was “let ‘em in and let ‘em out”. Robert traveled every Sunday to Danville and left on Monday. He was always here by 2:00 and gone by 2:00.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, five sisters, his wife Minnie in 2005 and a son Derry. Robert leaves to cherish his memory his children, Dannier and Drayton
Goolsby, Denetra Walker and Robin Franklin; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends; and a long time best friend, David L. Fields.
