Richard "Rich" Davis Obituary

Richard Eugene “Rich” Davis, 72, of Danville, Illinois, passed away Monday, May 11, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. He was born June 26, 1953, in Danville, Illinois, the son of Nelson “Jug” Davis Sr. and Marie Suzana Thurman Davis.
Rich graduated from Schlarman High School, where he was known as a talented basketball player. He later earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electronics Management from Southern Illinois University Carbondale College of Technical Careers on May 11, 1990. Rich worked for many years at OSF in Danville as an Equipment Technician, where he was respected for his intelligence, dedication, and strong work ethic.

Rich was united in marriage to Tammy L. Davis, who survives. Together they built a family that meant everything to him. He was a devoted father to Christina Connolly, Shawna Bryant, Mariah Davis, and Trey Davis. He was also a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild whom he adored and loved watching grow and play at his home.

Rich enjoyed golfing with his father, his brother Phil “Baldy” Davis, his son Trey Davis, and many friends throughout the years. He loved his motorcycle and took pride in custom building it. Above all else, Rich loved taking care of his family and his dogs — that was what he truly lived for.

The home Rich cherished was the house his father, “Jug,” built, where generations of family memories were made. It was always Rich’s intention that the home continue to welcome his children, grandchildren, and future generations for years to come.

Rich loved spending time sitting in his garage telling stories while watching his children, grandchildren, and dogs play outside. He was a caretaker by nature — someone who gave to others freely and never wanted attention focused on himself. Family and friends always knew they could call Rich if they needed help, advice, or someone they could count on.

He is survived by his sisters, Rita Davis, Shirley Lee, Crystal (Demetrius) Hobbs, and Carol Denninger; brothers, Phillip (Clara) Davis and Clarence “Sonny” (Jean) Davis; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson “Jug” Davis Sr. and Marie Suzana Davis; and his brothers, Patrick Davis, Todd Davis, David Davis, and Nelson Davis Jr.

In accordance with Rich’s wishes, cremation rites were accorded. A small private family viewing was held at leek and sons funeral home , just as he would have wanted.

Rich will be remembered for his quiet strength, sharp mind, love for his family, and the many memories he created with those closest to him. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
