Penelope Crockett was born on March 24, 1957 in Danville, Illinois to Dorothy Allen and Jesse Stewart (her parents preceded her in death). On March 23, 2007, Penelope married the love of her life Elbert Earl Crockett, and remained married for 14 years until the time of his death. Penelope, affectionately known as Penny was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Penelope departed from her earthly life on August 3, 2021.
Penelope received her education from Beethoven Elementary School and Dunbar High School, both in Chicago, Illinois. Some of the many activities that she enjoyed was sewing, crocheting, baking, cooking, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and extended family. Penelope was also a proud member of “Blacks In Government”.
Penelope leaves behind to celebrate her life and cherish her memory, five children: Garland Allen, Michael (Alicia) Allen, Michelle Allen, Matthew Hunter, and Tuwana (Demetrius) Reed. Grandchildren: Donna, Michael (Alisha), Ronnie, Montario, Maliya, Mia, Demarco, Gabriel, Garland, Jeremiah, Olivia, Phoebe, Raphael, Demetrius, and Miha. Siblings: Freda (Doug), Priscilla, John, Victoria (Donald), Vera, and Tijuana (Darryl), James Allen preceded her in death. Two half-sisters, Mary Herring and Suzanne Brandon, three half-brothers, John Herring, Joey Herring, and James Herring, (Michael Herring and Debbie Cunningham preceded her in death). She also leaves sixteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
A homegoing celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon on Monday August 9,2021 Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 311 N. Collett St, Danville. Eulogist: Lucius Barber. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow after at Danville National Cemetery.
