Ora Dorothy Green

Our matriarch, Ora “Dorothy” Green, 91, departed her earthly being on Friday, February 17, 2023, at Carle Hospital, Urbana, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born July 10, 1931, to Martha and Fred Thomas in Humboldt, TN. She was happily married to Leroy Green Jr. on May 16, 1948. After 31 years of marriage, Leroy passed away on March 19, 1979.

Dorothy, known in the community as “Granny”, owned and operated a home childcare center. Granny helped care for, love, and raise many children.

Dorothy loved the Lord and served as a mother at New Jerusalem Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings: James Thomas, Henry Thomas, Ed Lee Thomas, Herdy Thomas, Loraine Thomas, Roberta Thomas, Martha Lyons, and Will Lyons; her son, Raymond Green; daughter-in-law, Barbara Green;  daughters, Sandra Green and Barbara Ann Green; grandsons, Mark Green and Spencer Green; and, great-grandson, Isaiah Hunt.

She is survived by her children: Dorothy Green of Champaign, Linda Green of Urbana, Larry Green (Latrece) of Urbana, Darric Green of Champaign; and, Special Goddaughters, Phanta Tyler and Lequita Christmon.

Dorothy also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many others whom she loved and cared for over the years.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon Monday February 27, 2023 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 1215 W. Bradley Ave, Urbana. A visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow after at Mount Hope Cemetery.
