Nathaniel Nate Gentry 65 of Danville transition quickly into paradise January 23, 2020. Nathaniel was born on April 15, 1954 in Danville, IL to Brunsen Joiner and Elma Gentry. Nate served in the army from April 8, 1973 - April 13, 1982. He was discharged as honorary discharge from the army. He was stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he met his wife Joyce McIntyre and were later married on May 5, 1975 in South Carolina. To this union a daughter was born name Marquita Gentry. He received his GED from North Carolina State Board. He also received a couple of certificates, one from Central Carolina Tech and one from the US Army 82nd Airborne Sergeant. He also went to DACC. Nate worked at several locations starting with a maintenance man at Phelps Enterprises, a security officer at Wackenhut Security , shipping and receiving at McLeans, sandblasting at Illiana Heat Treating, grill cook at McDonald’s, grill cook at Bob Evans, house keeper/ health aide at Danville VA Medical Center, grinder/ polisher at Disk Tech, machine operator at Peterson/Puritan, and Chief of Security at Sheraton Inn Motor Lodge. He loved and enjoyed music and playing drums. He gave his life to Christ at a young age. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Joyce Gentry of Fairmount, North Carolina, a daughter Marquita Gentry of Lumberton, North Carolina. Also five sisters and two brothers, Charles Cox(Sharon), Robert (Mary)Cox, Gloria Cox, Lorie Robinson and Delores Cox all of Danville, Debra Cox of Indianapolis Indiana. Also Yvonnia Norris of Danville IL. He also leaves behind a grandson named Zymirion. A close and special friend named Judy Woods of 30 years, along with nieces, nephews, cousins etc. He was preceded in death by his father Brunsen Joiner, John Cox who raised him, his mother Elma Cox and several aunts, and uncles. He will be dearly missed.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday February 4, 2020 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 311 Collett, Danville.
Visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service. Officiating Rev. Isaac Gentry. Interment will follow after at Danville National Cemetery.
