Myrna Rhodes Obituary

Myrna Joyce Rhodes, 83, affectionally know as Granny Rhodes transitioned from this life on June 30, 2026, at 12:34 PM.  Mryna was born November 20, 1942, in Hoopeston, IL. to Ralph Moore and Betty Wintersteen.  She married Ben E. Rhodes on July 3, 1961, in Chicago IL.  He proceeded her death on July 9, 1984.

Myrna was formerly a member of Saint Paul Baptist Church (Philadelphia Baptist Church) where she served on various committees and attended with her daughters.  She later visited various churches for Sunday worship until her health would no longer permit.  Myrna retired from the East Central Illinois Community Action Agency Head Start Program at 42 years of dedication service.

Mryna was a caring and courageous person.  She was the definition of a caregiver.  Myrna would help anyone if they needed help.  Cussing was her “love language” and she didn’t’ mind putting you in your place when you needed it.  She enjoyed music, dancing, cooking, decorating (any occasion), shopping at thrift stores, resale shops, and rummage sales, going to restaurants, and sharing a meal with family and friends.

Myrna is survived by her daughters, Bennita Adams (Dave) of Fort Wayne, IN and Michelle Rhodes Jones (Greg) Indianapolis, IN: stepdaughter Gladys Pope of Urbana IL, three children she raised as her own, Darrell “Pappy” Sinclair of Danville, IL., Brandon Alexander of Champaign, IL. and Ch’Anna Moore of Danville, IL.: Three brothers, Kenneth (Sharon), Richard (Bonnie), Ricky (Cathie) Moore all of Hoopeston, IL. 11 grandchildren: Benni Rhodes, Justin May, Brittanni Bernard, Brandon Bernard, Sierra Bernard, Mariah Adams, Jasmine Adams, Brookly (Deceased), Christian, Anna, and Brianna Cockerham; 24 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and s host of nieces and nephews and family members.

Mryna was proceeded in death by her husband, grandparents, parents, stepdaughter; Carolyn Martinez-Miller, two step son in laws; Robert Marinez-Miller and Paul Lawrence Pole, one step-grandson; Cameron Clark, one granddaughter; Brooklyn Cocherham, one great-grandson; Jarious Mason, tow nephews; Ricky and Jamie Moore and two sisters-in-law; Sharon and Bonnie Moore.

A Memorial was held on Saturday, July 25,  2026, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, Danville.  Apostle Charles Hargrove; Officiate.
