Mary M. Wilkins, 96 of Danville, Illinois, passed away Peacefully, on Monday, June 30, 2025 at Labella of Danville
Born on March 17, 1929, in Alvin, Illinois, Mary was the 9th of 13 children. Mary was married to Charles Jones (precedes in death) and had two daughters from that union. Mary later married Percy Wilkins (precedes in death) and had one son from that union. Mary retired from the Department of Veterans Affairs in Indianapolis, Indiana where she proudly served our Nations Veterans for 30 years. Mary was a dedicated Indiana Pacers fan and Season Ticket holder. Mary was an avid reader and always yearning for more knowledge. After retirement she returned to Danville and at the age of 79, Mary earned an Associate Degree of Arts from Danville Area Community College.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and playing piano. But her favorite pastime was fishing, a love she shared with her grandchildren. Mary was a woman of deep faith and very committed to her church family at Holy Family Church.
At the core of her existence were the people she loved most, herfamily. Mary was a loving, dedicated parent to Karen Jones- McKissack, HannaGale (Ricky) Hardimon, Phillip Wilkins and Charles (Verna) Wilson. Mom was also an adoring Grandmother to Kimberli (Aryah) McKissack-Robertson, DeShawn McKissack, Claude McKissack Jr. (precedes her in death), Van (LaQuita) Hardimon and Vinson Hardimon and Special Adopted granddaughter Angela King, who was also her attentive caregiver. She was Great Grandmother of eleven and Great-Great Grandmother of 1. Mary’s family also included her Godchildren, Budd (precedes her in death) and Suzan Winkler whom she cherished. Mary has two surviving siblings, a host of nieces and nephews and many beloved friends. Maryapproached every relationship with a genuine desire to nurture, support, and celebrate others. The love she shared with herfamily was unwavering
Mary’s Funeral Mass will be held on July 19th at 11:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church, Danville where family and friends will gather and celebrate a life that was lived with faith,purpose, grace, and love. Burial to follow at Bethel Cemetery in Alvin, Illinois
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Holy Family Church/St. Vincent DePaul Society, reflecting her lifelong commitment to giving back.
She While her time among us has come to and end, the legacy of her life will continue to inspire and guide those who had the privilege of knowing her.
