The mortal life of our beloved Mary Louise McFarland, began on September 26, 1939 in Edwards Mississippi, born to the Union of Johnnie Horton and Surlisha McFarland. She accepted Christ at an early age at the St. Paul Baptist Church in Edwards, Mississippi. She graduated from Moriah High School.
She relocated to Champaign, Illinois, where she later became a member of Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church for 28 years. She was a very intelligent, hard working, and fun loving person. She retired from the University as a cook after working 20+ years. Everyone loved to be around her. She enjoyed listening to spiritual music, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
Quite often death sends no summons before him, but floats unseen on a breeze. He comes on joshed footsteps to all. He came to our beloved on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Carle Hospital at 4:53 PM. Her transition was peaceful and now she is at rest. She leaves cherishing her with loving memories her 2 sons James Otis McFarland and Larry McFarland. 4 Sisters: Lucille McFarland, of Edwards, Mississippi), Johnnie Mae Harvey (Percy), Earnetine McFarland, and Alma Jean McFarland (Rolando) of Champaign, Illinois,) Brothers: Joseph Horton, of Edwards, Mississippi, Robert Earl Horton (Ann), and Charles Walker Jr. (Susan) of Jackson, Mississippi. Leroy McFarland (Gwendolyn), Edwards Mississippi, Leonard James McFarland (Angela) of Champaign, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents Surlisha Mae McFarland and Johnnie Horton. 3 Children Archie McFarland, Kenny O McFarland, and 1 daughter Phyllis McFarland Horton, 2 brothers Eugene McFarland (Susie) of Champaign, Illinois, and Carl McFarland (Gail), of New Jersey, 5 Sisters: Laura Kidd, Bertha Lee Smith (James), Clementine Smith (Benard), Mildred Ann Richardson, and Diane McFarland. 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon on Friday 18, 2022 at Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church 1310 N. Sixth St., Champaign. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Lincoln Cemetery.
