Mary Jones Obituary

Mary Lee Jones was born on May 19, 1958 in Brent, Alabama, to Florine James and Eddie Watkins.  She was the second of four children born.

Mary received her education in the Centerville public school system, graduating from Bibb County High School in 1976. Shortly after, she began her career as a production worker at a glove manufacturing factory in Centerville, Alabama, where she discovered her passion for sewing. This newfound love of craftsmanship would stay with her throughout her life. In addition to her work at the glove factory, Mary dedicated 20 years to Colony Square Cleaners, where her meticulous attention to detail shined. Later, she spent 15 years at Busey Bank, always bringing her warmth and strong work ethic to every role she undertook.

At just 20 years old, Mary met the love of her life, Terrence Sr., and their bond was instant. Their love story began over a meal at a local barbecue spot, a memory they treasured throughout their lives. Married in February 1981, together, they built a life rooted in deep affection, shared memories, and an unwavering devotion to family. Through this union they shared two children.

Mary Jones was a beacon of love and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her home was always filled with the warmth of her cooking, each dish she made feeding both the body and soul. As an avid Kansas City Chiefs football superfan, Mary cheered passionately for her team, her enthusiasm radiating from her living room during every game. Above all, Mary cherished her family. She found immense joy in spending time with her beloved grandchildren, each of whom she was so incredibly proud of, watching them grow and thrive with her love and guidance.

Throughout her life, Mary was a devoted Christian who delighted herself in the Word of God. In 1982, she joined Love Corner, the Church of the Living God, where she became an active and cherished member. Mary faithfully served her church as assistant chair of the Usher Board, a church trustee, and a dedicated Bible study teacher. Her faith was a guiding light in all that she did, shaping her into the loving, compassionate person so many adored. Mary’s legacy of love, warmth, and kindness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.

Mary went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Annie James and Helen James. Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 43 years, Terrance Jones Sr.; two children, Bengi Jones (Christian) and Terrance Jones Jr. (Brittany); seven grandchildren, Shannon Jones, Terrance Jones, III, Kilian Jones, Corrion Cooper, Chase Jones, Hazel Jones, and Carson Jones; one sister, Otha James; along with other devoted relatives and friends.
