Mary Dabney Obituary

            Mary Ann Dabney was born March 30, 1947, in Hazelhurst, MS she transitioned to the Heavenly realm February 4, 2021.  She was preceded in death by both his parents, John Ola and Isabell Adams; three siblings; Joe Willie, Lillie Adams and Clowzell Adams, Sr.; a nephew Jevon Seward; a niece, Angel Lachelle Smith; and several close cousins.  She leaves to survive her memory, her children, Robert Adams, Sr., Corey Adams, Myron Adams and Danny Adams; all of Danville, IL; and three special children, Floyd Petey Dabney, Cherry Shay Dabney, and Michael Dabney. From her children was birthed three more generations; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, which has enlarged her family legacy.

Mary Ann was a gentle, soft spoken woman who loved and cherished her family near and far; she kept everybody in the family in touch with what was going on with each other. She was creative, especially with cooking; she was a chef in her own right.  She had the ability to create a nourishing meal out of seemingly nothing.  Mary was the fourth sibling born of 9. She and her siblings were always close and spent a lot of time together, especially on holidays and weekends.  Mary Ann retired from her professional career as a director for the Danville Head start program.  She incorporated ideas from her profession into family activities and gatherings, making them exciting and fun.

            Mary Ann Dabney had a sincere a relationship with God, which was displayed through her daily life. She was a faithful member of Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where her mother also served for years in several positions before she transitioned to Heaven.  “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:1-2)


Mary Ann leaves to celebrate her life and legacy, her children, Robert Adams, Sr., Corey Adams, Myron Adams and Danny Adams; all of Danville, IL; and three special children, Floyd Petey Dabney, Cherry Shay Dabney, and Michael Dabney; her surviving siblings, Lynn Smith of Urbana, IL; Anna Adams of Urbana, IL; Leroy and Brenda Adams of Danville, IL; Marlene Adams of Champaign, IL; and Mamie Adams of Urbana, IL; the family matriarch, her Aunt, Bernice Johnson of Danville, IL; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.

A private Homegoing Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon Friday February 12, 2021 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St. Eulogist: Rev. U. Pete Williams. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery. A Public viewing will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Thursday February 11, at Leek & Sons Funeral Home.
