Madie Elam Obituary

Madie B. Elam passed this life at 9:20 p.m. Friday May 29, 2020 at Carle Foundation Hospital.  She was born on April 25, 1942, to the union of C.P. and Ethel Sanders.  Madie was united in marriage to Robert Elam. Out of that union three beautiful children were born.

Madie attended the Danville schools. She retired after 30 years of service from General Motors. Madie  was a member of the UAW Local 579.  She enjoyed serving food at church, fishing, bingo, playing cards, traveling, shopping, dressing up and spending time with her family and great grand kids.  

Madie leaves to cherish her memories, a daughter, Valerie D. January of Woodbridge, VA., two sons; Robert Elam of Danville and Anton Elam of Lithonia GA.  Three sisters; Rosemary Davis and Charlene Wilson of Racine WI. and Gertrude McGee of Kokomo, IN. Two brothers; Willie Davis and Silkey Uati of Racine WI., nine grandkids: Valerie, Robert (Sherita) Adrian, Ashley, Robert (Isabella) Johnathan, Antionette, Antaneya, and Antaneshia and 18 Great-Grand Children, two special uncles Robert Cain of MS., Leon Cain of Chicago, one aunt: Vera Wells of Chicago and a host of nieces and nephews.  Special friends; Paul, Edna Cross, Versie Dyson, Ethel Jones, Shirley Brown, Katherine Hawkins, Minnie Poke, Marsha Ingram, Shirley Gibson, Kaye Houston and Jeanie Sloan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, one sister: Norma Johnson, one brother; Charlie Maddox and two great-grandchildren: Devontae Summers and Jayla Jean.

A Private Homegoing Service that will be live streamed via Facebook will commence at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 5, 2020 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St. Danville.   Viewing will be from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2020 at the funeral home. Interment: Sanhill Memorial Park. 

DUE to COVID 19 regulations ALL family members and friends who plan to attend VIEWING are REQUIRED to practice extreme precaution by wearing protective mask, gloves and practicing social distancing.  Please be considerate of others, as only ten people will be allowed inside the funeral Home at a time.
