Lee Carlton Cunningham, a dedicated U.S. Army Veteran, passed away on December 6, 2024, at the age of 78. He was born on July 1, 1946, in Wilson, North Carolina to Willie & Marion Cunningham. He married Joann Newsome on February 24, 1970, in Danville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Brenda and Willie Cunningham and special hunting/fishing buddies, Roy Withers and Robert "Mojo" Walker.
Mr. Cunningham attended schools in Wilson, North Carolina and Danville, IL. He enlisted in the Army in 1965 and retired in 1991. He served two tours in Vietnam and received the distinct honor of Purple Heart.
Lee is survived by his wife, Joann Cunningham, three sons: Craig (Corie) Newsome, Terry (Rachel) Cunningham, Brian (Dr. Lashaunda) Cunningham, (4) siblings, Yvonne Scruggs, Yvette Buford, Gregory Cunningham, & Wanda Cunningham, and (6) grandchildren, Chanel, Camryn, Allyssa, Brishaun, Devyn, Niko and a host of nieces and nephews, his great granddaughter, Indyia Rose and his ride-to-die brother-in-law, J.D. Patton.
A celebration of life will commence at 12:00 Noon December 16, 2024 at New Life Church of Faith 1419 N. Bowman Ave., Danville. Eulogist: Pastor Jones. A visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service.
Interment: Danville National Cemetery.
