LeRoy Carter Obituary

LeRoy Carter was born December 9, 1943 to Mr. Sam and Mrs. Annie Mae (O’Quinn) Carter in Clarksdale, Mississippi. His family relocated to Danville when LeRoy was ten years old.  He was married to his childhood sweetheart Janice Lee (Campbell) Carter for 57 years, together they have five children.

He attended Danville schools. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he served as the Chairman of the Trustee Ministry and as Director of the Antioch Food Pantry Ministry which serves 150 families weekly. LeRoy was loved and respected by his church family as he was dependable and did not mind helping in any way he could.

LeRoy was known as a hard worker having entered the workforce at the young age of 13 years old. His first job was at the Main Hatter, shining shoes. LeRoy was not afraid of hard work, at times working two jobs to support his growing family. Eventually he secured a position at Central Foundry General Motors Division in 1966. When the General Motors Danville plant closed, he accepted the opportunity to take a position in the Kokomo, IN., Delphi Plant and continued working for another eight years. He retired in 2003, as a millwright after 37 years of employment with General Motors.

LeRoy enjoyed spending time with his family and regularly supported his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their school and extracurricular activities.

LeRoy leaves to cherish his memory his wife Janice, 4 daughters, Kim Broadie, Marilyn Carter, Michelle (Greg) Allen, and Cassandra Carter, and one son Cornelius “Buddy” (D’Ana) Carter, three sisters, Ethel Jones, Dorothy Carter, and Ann (Bishop James) Farr, eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one god-daughter Danielle (Terrance) Carroll, and special extended family Danny and Carrie Daniel and family of Arkansas; a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one grandchild, DeNeisha Epps.
