Lawrence Wayne Johnson was born May 30, 1952 in Danville, Illinois. He attended the Danville Schools. Lawrence was a hard worker and as the story goes…. He never missed a day. He worked and retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. Lawrence enjoyed watching football. His favorite teams were the Pittsburg Steelers and the New Orleans Saints.
He loved listening to James Brown. He said “that was his main man”. Lawrence enjoyed his westerns, karate movies, playing dominoes and was an expert chess player. He kept money in his wallet and a drawer full of sweets to pass out to his nieces and nephews. Lawrence loved dogs and would give you money to go buy a box of chicken to feed them at any time.
He is survived by his mother Bernice L. Johnson, one sister, Debra K. Robertson, friends that was raised as brother and sister; Clay Tyler and Toni Drain. One nephew, Damon (Tammy) Robertson, five nieces; Dionne Holmes, Brandy Keys, Season Marshall, Ericka Holmes and Maranda Scott and a host of great nieces and nephews. A special friend, Connie Williams.
He was preceded in death by his dad Engram Johnson Jr., two sisters; Sandra J. Johnson and Carol M. Holmes and one brother David L. Johnson.
A Homegoing service will commence at 12:00 p.m. Friday February 24, 2023 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home, 304 E. Williams St. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Eulogist: Pastor Frederick Cowen. Interment will be at Sanhill Memorial Park.
