In Loving Memory of Larry Hayworth Thomas, Sr

Larry Hayworth Thomas, Sr., a cherished husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, brother, and beloved member of the Georgetown, Illinois community, passed away on September 14, 2023, at the age of 81. He was born on November 19, 1941, to Andrew and Lorene Thomas in Georgetown, where he spent most of his life.

Larry attended Georgetown High School where he played football, basketball, and track, graduating in 1960. Larry dedicated his working years to Hyster, beginning in 1962, which was later acquired by NACCO Materials Handling Group. His commitment and hard work led to a well-deserved retirement in 2007. Larry dedicated his life to Christ being baptized on July 30, 1967, at First Baptist Church. He continued to be a faithful member of First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years, offering his time and support to his spiritual community. 

Larry found the love of his life in Clemouth Johnson, and on July 2, 1977, they became one, embarking on a lifelong journey together filled with love and happiness. Their union brought together a perfect blended family of eight children. 

In his leisure time, Larry pursued his passions with enthusiasm. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, finding solace in the beauty of nature. You could often find him glued to the TV, watching college and professional sports, as he was a true fan of the Chicago Bears and a diehard Cubs fan. He also shared his love for sports with the community by coaching Little League football many years ago.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Lorene, his sisters, Julia, Minnie, Gertrude, and Marjorie, his brother Andrew Jr., and his daughter Sherri.

He leaves behind his loving wife Clemouth, his sister Lorene, his daughters – Denita (Michael), Dana (Clay), Tamera, and DeAndrea, his sons – Larry Jr. (Dionne), Terry (Jaqueline), Houston (Tamra). Grandsons – James, Dohntae, Treymar, Joshua, JaVuan, Robert, Ryan, David and Lane. Granddaughters – Laurie, Jasmine, Micah, Tarah, Jakarrah, Rionah, Adrianna, Valerie, Trinity, Jaden, Nyomi, Devin and Deanna. 7 great-grandsons, 4 great-granddaughters. Along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends that were like family.

Larry's legacy of love, dedication, and an unyielding commitment to family and community. His memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Larry Hayworth Thomas, Sr., your memory will forever be etched in our hearts, and your legacy will continue to inspire us all. Rest in peace until we meet again. Your loving family.

A celebration of life will commence at 12:00 Noon Saturday September 23, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Georgetown 306 W. 14th St Georgetown. Eulogist: Pastor Ricky Hoskins Sr. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am u til the time of the service. Burial Georgetown Cemetery.
