L.T. Myers Obituary

L.T. Myers, 92 of Rantoul, llinois passed away peacefully on July 08, 2022, while surrounded by family.  He was born the middle child of parents  L.S. and  Maude Myers on April 1, 1930, in Bassfield, Mississippi. During his youth, he attended the local elementary school, then decided to pursue lucrative work opportunities with close family as he learned valuable life skills, such as farming, construction, and auto mechanics. These skills molded him into the industrious adult everyone has come to know and love over the years.

As he continued to cultivate his skills and charisma, L. T. met his wife Barbara McGown in Picayune, Mississippi. They married April, 12, 1952, and moved to the Southside of Chicago, Illinois where they raised their seven children: Sandra, Allyson, Darrell, Russell, Kevin, Lerome, and Terrance. His ingenuity and hardworking mentality led to a 28-year career at Wisconsin Steel in which he retired.

L.T. was not only hardworking, but was a dedicated and loving father who loved spending time with his grandchildren, finding different projects to complete in his garage, doling advice to his peers and young listeners, and growing a community garden that he would share its plentiful fruits and vegetables with those who would come to visit. Having accepted Christ at an early age, throughout his entire life he held an unwavering faith in God that he shared with those who surrounded him as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents L.S. and Maude, his sister Bessie, and his oldest son Darrell (Sheretta).

He is survived by his loving wife Barbara Myers; his sister Lillie Myers of Jackson, Mississippi; six children: Sandra Brown of Chicago, Illinois; Allyson Thomas (James) of Rantoul, Illinois; Russell Myers (Denise) of Savoy, Illinois; Kevin Myers (Lisa) of Picayune, Mississippi; Lerome Myers (Akeyla) of Hammond, Indiana; and Terrence Myers of Chicago, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren: Eboni Burns, Kenyon Brown, Willie Myers, Malori Turner, La’Tonya Myers, Brittane Brown, Erick Myers, KQuiera Myers, Diamond Myers, Jade Myers, Kimani Myers, Jalyn Clay, and Aleese Myers; and twenty-two great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.

A homegoing service will commence at 12:00 Noon on Saturday July 23, 2022 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 1215 W. Bradley Ave., Urbana. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service.
