Korey Lamar Russell

Korey Lamar Russell was born on January 22, 1979 to Toni L. Russell and Bobby Cole Sr. in Urbana, Illinois. As a child, Korey was educated in the Champaign School district, later earning his GED in 2013. In 2016, Korey relocated to Iowa.

Korey was a huge movie buff and die-hard Illini fan. He also enjoyed football, basketball, and disc golf. Rarely serious, he lit up the room with his charisma, jokes, and never-ending list of famous movie quotes. Korey enjoyed spending time with his kids, and he visited with friends and family often. At his time of departure, Korey worked for Construction Materials Inc.

Korey leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Toni Russell McMullen and Bobby Cole Sr. (Debra), children Kourtney Russell and Jakobe Russell, sister Teisha McCoy, brothers Montrell Henderson (Audrey), Stephen Billups, Lee Heard, Bobby J. Cole Jr., Jan-Michael Cole, Grandmother Beth Foster (Gerald), best friend Antonio McGee, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Korey was preceded in death by maternal grandfather Lenford “Duke” Russell and cousin Rahmondo Moore. Paternal Grandparents James “Pepper” Cole Sr. and Mae Helen Cole.

A celebration of life will commence at 11:00 am Saturday August 12, 2023 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 1215 W. Bradley Ave., Urbana. Visitation will beginat 10:00 am until the time of the service.
