Joseph Lewis

Joseph Willie Lewis 34 was called to his heavenly home on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at OSF Hospital in Danville IL. He was born on September 12, 1988, in Chicago IL, to the late Leon W. Lewis and Lynne R. Mays. 

Joseph graduated from Stanhope Elmore High School in Millsboro AL, in 2007. In 2013 he moved to Danville IL, where he later gained his independence. Joseph did not work due to his disability, but he worked in his community by working part time at the community store as well as baby sitting for single mothers in his community. He was a great friend, brother, and uncle.

He was well loved in his community, most people say that he had a heart of gold. He was always helping others even when he could not help his self. 

He is survived by his paternal grandparents Barba Williams and Dorothy Mays, siblings Antione Mays, Leon W. Lewis, Anthony Murry, Laurence Lewis, Melissa Lewis, Cynthia Lewis, Caitlin Lewis, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, and cousins. 

Joseph was preceded in death by his parental parents Leon W. Lewis, Lynn R. Mays, his uncle Maurice Lewis, and his paternal grandfather Richard Chisholm.

A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon October 22, 2022 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 304 E. Williams St. Eulogist: Pastor Miller. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service.
