Jerry Lee Dorsey

Jerry Lee Dorsey was born on February 23, 1967, in Champaign, IL to the union of Jerristeen

Dorsey and George Albert Murray. Jerry was reared and received his education in the

Champaign area. He grew up in the Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club, a member of the

Beardsley Park Coalition (BPC) and founding member of the GHETTO brothers’ social club. 

Upon graduation from Centennial High School, he went on to

work at the University of Illinois, Document Services where he dedicated 20+ years of service.

Known as “Jaye” to his family and friends, he had an infectious, larger than life personality and

he never left a room without helping another in need. His passions for dancing, sound mixing,

and salesmanship led him to touch the lives of many and he will be remembered as an eternal

friend (and dance partner); he never met a stranger and every person, to him, was just a friend

he hadn’t spoken to yet.

Jerry transitioned from this life into the Kingdom of Heaven on May 25, 2023.

Left to cherish his loving memories are his nine children, Antonio Smith, Martez Miller, Jaytreon

Dorsey, Adrian Dorsey, Jerondon Dorsey, Makayla Dorsey, Christopher Dorsey, Cameron

Dorsey, and Donovan Dorsey; two grandchildren, Adrian M. Dorsey Jr. and Amari T. Dorsey;

siblings, Antonio, Dwayne and Maurice Dorsey, Kenyada and Fineez Muhammad, Albert, Marva

and Karen Murray, Eulanda Biggers, Rhonda Williams, Theresa Powell, Myra Pettigrew, Stori

Darnell-Sorrell, Jameel Morris, and Meme; close aunt Lorene Dorsey; stepfather Richard Earl

Moore; bonus daughter Valencia Crosby; a host of nieces, nephews, friends and extended

family members.

Jerry was preceded in death by both biological parents, grandmother Della Mae Dorsey, grandfather 

Johnny Herman, his sister Jeriste Dorsey, and brother Mario Biggers.

 A celebration of life will commence at 12:00 Noon Tuesday June 6, 2023 at the Vineyard Church, 1500 N. Lincoln Ave., Urbana. Pastor Herbert Burnett will officiate. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Lincoln Memorial Garden, Urbana.
