Jameseller (Nelson) Woodson Obituary

A loving wife and doting mother; Jameseller Cornelia (Nelson) Woodson was born in Danville, IL to James and Velnore Nelson on September 12, 1937.

After receiving her high school diploma from Danville High School; she moved to Indianapolis, IN where she attended and graduated from Madam CJ Walker College of Beauty.

A real go-getter and leader, Jameseller landed a position at General Electric once back in Danville. There she was affectionately known as ‘Jamie’. She would work at GE for the next 30+ years. During this same time she would hold union and leadership positions as well as a seat on The Credit Union Board. All the while, she took courses at DACC; studying computers. At the same time she maintained her Cosmetology license and showed excellence in making others beautiful. “Don’t say Thank You…say MORE HAIR!” she would tell her customers up until she retired in 2017.

In 1962 she joined Jimmie Woodson in Holy Matrimony. They would go on to enjoy 60 years of wedded bliss until her death on her 84th birthday.

Being baptized at an early age, she was a member of Greater Shiloh Baptist church for close to seven decades. She was instrumental in many auxiliaries as well as the finance ministry team and keeping the books. Although she wasn’t one to boast, Jameseller learned to play the piano as a child. She was an excellent musician, playing piano and leading choirs for a number of churches throughout the city as well as being active in Woodriver. She was also the driving force in organizing many programs, fund raisers and her Men In Action; which she took much pride in.

Also having an entrepreneurial side, Jameseller was known as the ‘BBQ sauce lady’ by many who loved the taste of her home-made sauce.

Always dressed to the ‘nines’, Jameseller loved fashion and elegance. You would rarely catch her without wearing one of her perfectly matching ‘church hats’.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother (Anvil Lee Nelson, Sr.); and sister (Eatha Bryant).

Jameseller got her wings on September 12, 2021; just a few hours after her 84th birthday party.

Left to mourn her loss and miss her dearly is her husband of 60 years (Jimmie); son (Patrick) and daughter (Pamela); along with a host of family and a few close friends.
