James Lawrence (Jake) Pelmore was born on April 10, 1946, in Hollandale, MS to Willis and Olivia W. Pelmore. James was known by his nickname, Jake, to family and friends.
Jake worked with his brother, Tom Pelmore. They started Mini Landscaping together where he worked for many years. His last job was with Open Road Construction until his retirement.
After many years, Jake found his true love, Eudora, whom he married on February 14, 2007. They had 15 years of learning from each other and shared 31 years.
A favorite memory of Jake was when he would come home from a long day of work, sit in the garage, and have one of his grandchildren bring him a cool drink.
To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was affectionately known as Papa. They had their special toy room when they came every weekend to play.
Jake loved football. His favorite team was the Kansas City Chiefs. He listened as the Superbowl was being played.
He was a member of Lone Star Lodge #18, PHA, F&AM.
Jake departed this life on February 13, 2023. He leaves to cherish his memory his beautiful wife, Eudora; sons, Terry Avant and Michael DeArmond; daughter, LaKeta Maynor; bonus son, Cortayz Lewis (grandson); 18 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Tom (Joanne) Pelmore; sister, Louvenia Mathews; brother in law, Nate Brown; sister in laws, Willie Brown and Rosemary Kirk; special Caretaker, Karis Avant (granddaughter); and, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; one sister; one son; one daughter; and, one granddaughter.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon Saturday February 25, 2023 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 1215 W. Bradley Ave., Urbana. Interment will follow after at Lincoln Cemetery.
