Helen Marrissette Obituary

On May 29, 1951, the world welcomed a remarkable soul: Helen Marrissette. Born into a loving family of Herman and Madelene Johnson in Forest, Arkansas, Helen's journey eventually led her to Chicago, where she married her beloved husband, Gilbert Marrissette. Their union was a beautiful partnership, marked by love and devotion, as they raised five wonderful children together. In 1986, the family made a significant move to Champaign, where they continued to build a life rich in memories.

Faith played a central role in Helen’s life. From a young age, she embraced her beliefs in Christ, which guided her actions and interactions with others. Helen's genuine and caring nature was evident in everything she did—expressing kindness to a neighbor, sharing a laugh with friends, or supporting her family during difficult times.

Throughout her life, Helen was dedicated to her work at Caradco in Rantoul, Illinois. There, Helen poured her creative energy into crafting high-quality patio doors, showcasing not only her skills but also her keen eye for detail and artistry. Helen took pride in her work and was well-respected by her colleagues. Later, Helen discovered a new passion as a licensed daycare provider. In this role, Helen nurtured and cared for many children, guiding them with love, patience, and wisdom, and creating a warm environment where they felt valued and cherished.

As a devoted mother, Helen cultivated a home filled with warmth and affection. The simple joys of life brought her immense happiness; she loved gathering around the table for family meals, savoring the thrill of playing bingo, exploring new places while traveling, and whipping up delicious recipes in the kitchen. Her passion for life was infectious, inspiring those around her to appreciate the little things.

Helen leaves a vibrant legacy, including seven siblings who were always by her side: Herman Hicks (Rantoul, IL), Chester Hicks (Jackie) (Champaign, IL), Thomas Johnson (Savoy, IL), Angie McFarland (Leonard) (Urbana, IL), Perry Johnson (Patricia) (Rantoul, IL), Ingemar Johnson (Champaign, IL), and Aretha Johnson (Rantoul, IL). Each of them carries fond memories of their times together.

Helen's  love also extended to her five children: Dyshonne Marrissette (Kleen, TX), Angelo Marrissette (Champaign, IL), Stacey Marrissette (Champaign, IL), Nina Marrissette (Champaign, IL), Shavon Marrissette (Champaign, IL), and stepson Darrell Banks (West Memphis, TN). They too will carry forward her legacy of love and kindness.

Beyond Helen's  immediate family, Helen leaves behind the ones she held the closest to her Heart, which includes 18 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 4 bonus grandchildren. Each holds cherished memories of time spent with her, along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends touched by her generosity and spirit. Her memory will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Helen was proceed in death by her Husband Gilbert Marrissette, Her Brother Harold Jones and Grandson Keith Marrissette, and her Mother, Father and Grandparents.
