 Helen Ruth Keys, born May 5, 1955, in the close-knit community of Bay Springs, Mississippi, passed away on June 6, 2025, in Champaign, Illinois. At 70 years old, Helen’s life was a testament to strength, resilience, and unwavering love.
From a young age, Helen faced life’s challenges with a spirit that never wavered. She carried herself with a quiet strength that inspired those around her, becoming a pillar for her family and friends. More than anything, Helen cherished family — she had an extraordinary gift for bringing everyone together, weaving bonds that held tight through life’s ups and downs. Whether it was a holiday gathering, a simple Sunday meal, or a spontaneous celebration, Helen’s warmth and humor filled the room, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Her laughter was contagious, and her quick wit brought lightness even to the toughest days. Helen had a way of making everyone feel seen and loved, and her humor was one of the many gifts she shared generously. She was more than a mother and grandmother; she was a friend, a confidant, and a source of strength for many.
Helen’s legacy is not only in the family she lovingly raised but also in the countless hearts she touched with her kindness, resilience, and joyful spirit. She leaves behind a family that will carry forward her values and the love she poured into their lives.

A celebration of life will commence at 1:00 pm at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 1215 W. Bradley Ave. Urbana. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until the time of the service.
