Hattie Stringfellow Obituary

Our matriarch departed her earthly being at the age of 91 on Friday, December 16, 2022, surrounded by her loving family in Hanover, MD.  Hattie was the 7th of 9 children born to James and Lucille (Modest) Cottrell on February 7, 1931.  She was married to Bobby Stringfellow for 58 years, and was the proud mother of five children. Bobby preceded her in death on March 19, 2017.     

                            

Hattie was a member of Union Baptist Church Family for over 80 years, and served in the Gospel Chorus, Missionary Society, attended Woodriver District Association for many years, as well as, worked alongside close friends and other church members in the Church Fellowship Hall.  One of her pastimes was reading the "Daily Word".

                         

Hattie retired after 29 years of service from General Electric. She also served as a Vermilion County Election Judge for many years.

 

Hattie was a great mother filled with wisdom, knowledge, and faith in God. Anyone who truly knew her, can attest that she was thoughtful, kind hearted, and always offering a helping hand, of which has been instilled in her lineage.                    

 

Hattie leaves to cherish her memory, three (3) Daughters: Sharon-Thomas Wilkins, Sheila (James Estes) Stringfellow, and Sylvia Lee all of Danville, IL; Five (5) Grandchildren: Kimberly (Franklin) Abram, Taiwo  (LaKia) Thomas, Whitney Tolliver all of Maryland and Kataka Thomas and Cameron Stringfellow-Ford both of Texas; Seven (7) Great-Grandchildren: Michael (Krystal) Richardson of Michigan, Marquetta (Aaron) Benn, Ahmad (Njeri) Abram, Ryder Christian all of Maryland, Deontae Walker of Germany, Jayden Halls of Oklahoma and Alliana Ford of Texas; Six (6) Great-Great Grandchildren: Michael Richardson III, Makayla Richardson, Aubree Richardson, Akeem Richardson, all of  Michigan and Adia Abram and Matteo Benn of Maryland; her niece/sister, Jettie Martin of Danville, IL; her childhood friend since Kindergarten, Greta Fails of Michigan; Brother and Sister-in-Laws, Allen and Christina Stringfellow of Illinois; special friend, Judith Stafford of Illinois; and, a host of family and friends.

 

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter, Janet Thomas; son, Rickie Thomas; Granddaughter, Alexis Williams; and all eight (8) siblings, Bernice Counce, Emma Travis, James Cottrell, Allen Cottrell, Wilbert Cottrell, Howard Cottrell, Luvene Moore, and Ulyses Cottrell.

 

The Queen of our Hearts will be greatly missed, cherished, and loved forever.

 

A Memorial Service will commence at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at New Union Missionary Baptist Church, 1031 N. Gilbert, Danville.  Eulogist:  Pastor Steve Gilbert.
