Glen Rowell Obituary

And God said unto him, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant... enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”~Matthew 25:23

On Wednesday, September 15, 2021, Glen Rowell, Sr., 67, of Danville, Illinois took his Master’s hand and entered into the heavenly gates, singing.

Glen Rowell, Sr. was born on June 25, 1954 to Annie Rowell-Glover and Gerald Foster, Sr.

Glen married his high school sweetheart, Linda Williams, on March 11, 2012 after the two reconnected years later.  She was his best friend whom he enjoyed traveling with, talking about historical events with and going out to eat with.  The two were planning to renew their vows next year for their 10 year anniversary.

He was baptized at an early age.  Later in life, he joined in fellowship with Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Frank McCullough, where he served as a deacon, men’s Sunday school teacher, a member of the Mount Olive choir, sergeant of arms of the choir as well as a member of the quartet choir, Mountaintops.

Glen served in the Marine Corps with an honorable discharge.  Upon returning home, he worked as a laborer at several major factories.  Always wanting better, he was working on getting his GED at Danville Area Community College before he got sick.

All who knew Glen knew his love for singing.  Not only did he sing at church, he enjoyed performing at the Winter Frolics and even was a part of a singing group in the 1970’s called Mob Mixture.

The biggest part of his heart was being a Papa.  He truly loved his grandkids and enjoyed spending time with them. He looked forward to family gatherings and enjoyed family reunions.

His hobbies were watching western movies especially Big Valley and cooking.  He was a member of the Danville NAACP Branch 3009 and an avid marcher with the Three Kings of Peace, advocating for peace in the community.

Husband, Dad, Papa, son, brother, uncle, friend, “Rowell” and Mr. Glen will be forever in our hearts; gone, but never forgotten.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife; his father, Gerald (Beth) Foster, Sr. of Urbana, IL; 7 children: Damen Rowell of Champaign, IL, Cassandra Rowell of Georgetown, IL, Nimya and Jermaine Patton of Danville, IL; Glen, Jr. Rowell of Owensboro, KY; Dianna and Guy Rowell of Danville, IL; stepchildren: TeiQuetia (Michael) Jacobs, TaNeika (Calvin) Moultrie and Edgar (Heather) Driver Jr., all of Texas; siblings: Donna White, Tonya (A.D.)
