Obituary

Freddie James Gordon's earthly journey ended on Friday, July 21, 2023 at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Freddie was born on September 9, 1965, to Essie Gordon (Harris) and the late Freddie James in Urbana. He accepted Christ in his life at a young age at Salem Baptist Church. He was very active on the Usher Board, choir, a youth classroom teacher, and Assistant Superintendent of Sunday school.

Freddie received his education in the Champaign School system. He graduated from Centennial High School. He also attended Parkland College. He was employed with Fed-Ex, Carle Pavilion School, Illinois Secretary of State Department of Motor Vehicles, and Champaign County Clerk's Office.

Freddie was preceded in death by his Father, Paternal and Maternal Grandparents, his Aunt, and four Uncles.

Cherishing his life and memories… The joy of his life, his loving wife, Teryl Brewster-Gordon; his mother, Essie Gordon (Harris); two daughters, Katira L. Buford (Champaign) and Iyana Gray (Medina, TN); a son, Xavier Clark-Gordon (Champaign); two blended sons, Forrest Brewster (Urbana) and Erich Brewster (Chicago); four siblings, Angela Gordon (Champaign), Jawanza Harris (Metessa) (Champaign), DeAndre Williams (Chicago), and Freida James-Johnson (Summerville, SC); two Uncles, Arberry Barnes (Champaign) and Percy Gordon (Urbana); three Special Aunts, Grace Gordon (Urbana), Ronita Surratt (Urbana) and Brenda Mise (Greensburg, PA); Special Cousin, Salena Gordon; God Sister, Oyatta Hanny; and, a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

Freddie was truly dedicated to his Brotherhood with Lone Star Lodge #18 F & AM, Prince Hall Masons.  He was also actively involved in other organizations.  Freddie enjoyed DJing, listening to music and audiobooks, fishing, playing dominoes, and hanging out with his family.

Freddie brought a smile to everyone he encountered.  He managed to light up the room with his presence. He will be forever missed!

 

A homegoing celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon Monday July 31, 2023 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 1215 W. Bradley Ave, Urbana. Officiating Rev. Michael Wilson. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.

The Lone Star Lodge #18 F & AM, Prince Hall Masons will be performing rights at 10:00 am.
