On September 22, 2020, Eugene “Fry” Hunter departed this life in Douglasville, GA at the Douglasville Nursing home and Rehabilitation center after his fight with Alzheimer’s. Eugene was born on June 21, 1956 in Como, Mississippi. Eugene attended and graduated from Danville High School and Danville Area Community College. Eugene accepted Christ at an early age and united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and later in life he was a member of Lighthouse Ministry.
In the late 50s Eugene’s mother moved to Danville, Illinois following the footsteps of her older sister Owen Nelson. Soon after, Margaret Hoskins made the move as well. Living and raising kids together, these aunts were more like second mothers to Eugene, and his first cousins were more like siblings. As a young man, Eugene began his career working at General Motors in the late 70s, but anyone who knew Eugene, knows that he was a mover and a shaker. He continued to explore the world through different lenses, careers and jobs. You never knew where you might find him or what you might find him doing, he could be in a kitchen laying down marble tiles as a contractor or installing rollers sets for a client, as a scissor happy hair stylist. Eugene enjoyed seeing the world, playing basketball, playing chess, listening to music and solving mathematical puzzles. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. Both those that were local and those that traveled across state lines, will forever have memories of him taking them for walks and going to the park. He loved to point out all the roofs that he had completed around town, encourage them to play baseball or even try to cut his youngest grandson’s hair, with a pair of scissors. Overall, he really just enjoyed their company and they enjoyed his company as well. Eugene never met a stranger, even as a new resident in a new city and state his charismatic smile and calm mannerisms made it easy for him to make friends and win over those who were near him.
Eugene was preceded in death by his mother Willie Micou (Hunter). He leaves to cherish his memory his Children: Two daughters, Kesha Brown of Grayson, GA and Kelen Willliams of Danville, Illinois. One son: Kelvonta Hunter of Danville, Illinois; Two sisters: Janice Derrickson (Ronald Derrickson) of Lawrenceville, GA and Cora Hunter of Danville, Illinois; Grandchildren: Kyra, Kameron, Kamille, Kai and Karmen.; Two nephews Richard Carter and Aaron Carter: His Two aunts who helped raise him, Owen Nelson and Margaret Hoskins and a host of other relatives and friends.
