Ernestine (Brown)Matthews was born in Colp,Illinois on November 21,1931 to Paul Brown and Edith Guy. She attended Attucks grade school and Herrin Township high school. In 1948 Ernestine met and married Starling Matthews in Marion, Illinois and moved to Danville,Illinois that same year to this union 8 children were born.
Ernestine was a homemaker and dedicated herself to her loving husband and family. She was a faithful and longstanding member of Mt.Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she helped out wherever she could. She enjoyed cooking, shopping going to the movies and watching the birds as they would often perch outside her kitchen window these things along with spending time with her family was what she loved the most.
She was preceded in death by her father Paul Brown, mother Edith Kirby, brother Wendell Kincaid (Venola) sister Juanita Kincaid and her devoted husband Starling Matthews of 72 years marriage along with 3 sons Starling LewayneMatthews, Michael Matthews, Mark Matthews.
Ernestine leaves to cherish her memories beloved sister Marteen Moore (Abraham) and brother Ronald Kirby (Marjorie) her children Randy Matthews (Judy ) Sherri Houchins (Greg ) Terry Matthews, Lisa(Laaiqua Jami )Matthews, Paula Crockett(Barry )honorary daughter Janice Washington 18 grandchildren 31 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren all which she loved and cherished dearly and a host of relatives,nieces and nephews.
A Homegoing Celebration will commence at 11:00 am on Wednesday April 7, 2021 at Leek & Sons Funeral Home 304 E. Williams St., Danville. A visitation will begin at 10:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow after at Danville National Cemetery.
