Emanuel James Terry

November 18, 1942 ~ November 7, 2022 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Emanuel James Terry began life’s journey on November 18, 1942, in Jackson, Mississippi the second child born from the union of Rev. Eddie and Jessie (Briggs) Terry.  Emanuel was baptized at an early age attending Free Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson regularly.

Emanuel was a graduate of Jim Hill High School.  He loved being a football trainer at Jim Hill High School.  James met and married his high school sweetheart “Earlene” on the porch of her parent home.  Emanuel believed in getting a good education, so it seems fitting that he received his Degree in Education from Utica College in Utica, Mississippi.  James lettered in Track and Field during his college years at Utica College.  He loved being first in things.

On February 17, 1963, the love of life - Earlene, became his adoring wife.  This union produced 3 children, Daphne Terry-Heath, Darryl Terry and Darrick (Taquisha) Terry.  They have shared 59 years of a lifetime of wonderful memories.

Emanuel Terry came to Champaign, Illinois to focus on his family’s future.  He first was a chief for KATSINA’S for several years.  Once he obtained a position at KRAFT in Champaign, he moved to Distribution leader where he worked for 30 years.  After retiring from KRAFT, he successfully became the head Chief at LORD & LACYS in Urbana, Illinois.  He most enjoyed serving this community.

Deacon Terry was an active member of Canaan Missionary Baptist Church.  He coordinated all dinners alongside the Culinary committee because he has a love for cooking.  James was also an active leader on the Transportation committee and enjoyed working with Children’s church and the Safe House.

Emanuel was proceeded in death by his parents, two brothers Joseph and Eddie Terry and a stepdaughter Helen Heath.  He leaves to cherish his beautiful wife Earlene (Champaign, IL); daughter, Daphne Terry-Heath (Champaign, IL); two son’s Darryl Terry (Riverdale, GA) and Darrick (Taquisha) Terry (Champaign, IL).
