Edgar L. “Nine” Driver, 69, of Danville, IL transitioned to his heavenly home on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. He was born on June 21, 1953, in Webb, MS to the late Josephine Driver.
Nine (or Red), as he was affectionately called, attended and graduated from Danville High School in June of 1972. He then went on to AP School for Carpenters and received his certification in 1981 (National and International). He worked various jobs under Carpenters Union 269 for 20+ years.
Nine was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. In his leisure time, he enjoyed playing cards, fishing, lottery scratch offs, traveling and went on his first plane ride at the age of 60. Nine never forgot a birthday; he knew everyone’s birthday by heart and you always got a call.
He was a member of the Carter Metropolitan CME Church. Nine was a softball coach for Tomahawks; and, enjoyed cooking with such famous dishes as dressing, hot water cornbread and his bbq.
Nine leaves to cherish his memory; four daughters: TeiQuetia (Michael) Jacobs, TaNeika (Calvin) Driver-Moultrie, both of Texas; LeKendra (Mario) Craig, Kabriel Rapier Driver, of Illinois; three sons: Roderick Crider and Brandon (Ken’Niesha) Hoskins of Illinois, Edgar (Heather) Driver, Jr. of Texas; 29 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; aunt Mamie “Winkey” Robinson of Danville, IL, and siblings Eddie (Rose) Driver of Decatur, IL, Josie Mae Driver, Jesse (Loretta) Driver Sr. and LaVonnia Driver all of Danville, IL.; and, his childhood friend C.J. of Mississippi.
Nine was preceded in death by his mother Josephine Driver, his daughter Ericka Hoskins, four brothers McKinley, Artis, James and T.C. Driver; three sisters, Nancy, Mable and Cynthia Driver, and grandfather Eddie “Pete” Davis.
A Home going Celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon Friday, September 30, 2022 at New Life Church of Faith, 1419 N. Bowman Avenue, Danville. A visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of service. Officiant: Pastor Leo Davis. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery
