Dorothy Collins Obituary

Dorothy Lee Collins, 77, of Urbana, IL. passed this life on February 14, 2024. She was born September 11, 1946 in Gunnison, Mississippi to Beatrice and Will Humphries.

Dorothy attended public schools and helped her mother around the house with her siblings and worked with her father on the farm. In the early 70’s, Dorothy moved to Danville, IL where she worked for District #118 Schools in the cafeteria and Kmart (since 1983).

Dorothy was an awesome cook and knew how to make something out of nothing! Her passion was baking. She baked several cakes and pies. We were all crazy about her Sweet Potato Pie. Dorothy took a Cake Decorating Class and learned how to make icing out of food coloring and Crisco. She was a Tupperware Consultant when Tupperware first came out in 1980. In 1987, she became a Consultant for Mary Kay and attended recognition seminars in St. Louis, MO and Dallas, TX. Dorothy was also good with a needle and thread and made her children’s clothes when they were younger. Dorothy was stylish, classy, and elegant. She loved makeup and her wigs. She enjoyed plants, watching movies, listening to music and watching The Young and The Restless.

To know Dorothy, was to Love Dorothy. She was a compassionate, caring, helpful, loving person. If you needed shelter, she offered you a place inside her home. If you needed comfort, she was a great listener. If you were hungry, she fed you until you were full.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory, surviving children, Rose (Mason Sr.) Gentry of Sioux City, IA, Curtis Collins, Jr. of Urbana, IL and Clarice (Ashley) Collins of Plano, TX; her Chihuahua, Spike; 3 sisters, RosaLee Woods of Cleveland, MS, Minnie B. Maxwell of South Bend, IN and Ruth Ann Ault of Danville, IL; 3 brothers, Will O. Humphries Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Johnny B.
