Doris Jean Abernathy, 81, of Danville transitioned from this life at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. She was born on October 30, 1942, to the late Freda
May Thomas, and the late Robert G Phillips Sr. Doris graduated from Danville High School and went on to work for the State of Illinois. She then worked for the Danville Correctional Center where she retired.
Doris accepted Christ at a young age, and was a lifetime member of Mason Temple Church of God in Christ. She was an excellent cook. She really enjoyed baking. Her favorite meal to cook was a holiday meal. Doris enjoyed music as well.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Troy Abernathy; her brother, Robert “Butch” Phillips Jr.; and, a host of cousins and friends.
A homegoing celebration will commence at 12:00 Noon Thursday November 9, 2023 at New Life Church of Faith 1419 N. Bowman Ave., Danville. Eulogist: Thomas W. Miller. A visitation will begin at 11:00 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow after at Sunset Memorial Park.
