Donald Ray Chapman, affectionately known as “Don,” passed away peacefully on May 21st, 2025 at the age of 70. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on November 22, 1954, Don was the son of Thomas & Dorothy Chapman. He later moved to Danville, Illinois, where he graduated from Danville High School. Don accepted Christ at a young age. He was married to Renee Chapman who preceded him in death.
Don built a hardworking and dedicated career in the industrial manufacturing industry. Over the years, he contributed his talents to companies including Peck, Maynard Steel, Grede Foundry, Caterpillar, and later served Danville Public Schools as a custodian—a role in which he took great pride.
Don was known for his magnetic personality and infectious laugh that could brighten any room. His quick wit, unforgettable jokes, and joyful spirit brought smiles to all who knew him. He loved fishing, motorcycles, cars, and spending time watching his favorite shows—often laughing out loud with pure delight. He also enjoyed reading the newspaper and challenging himself with crossword puzzles. Don was a master at the barbecue grill and took pride in feeding his loved ones with his delicious cooking.
He was a devoted father to Chanel Chapman, Donald Rasheid Chapman, and Tommie Lamar Muskgrow; and a proud stepfather to Cher Muskgrow, Ricky Muskgrow, Antuane Coleman, and a bonus daughter Kyera Darnell.
Don is survived by his beloved siblings: Jeff(Kaye)Chapman, Brenda Chapman-Adams, Veronica Chapman-Finkley, and Thomas(Donya)Chapman. A special friend and care taker, Kim Petticrew. He was a cherished “Paw-Paw” to: Chasity Muskgrow, Tasinique Muskgrow, and Semzha Hill, Donald Rashied Chapman Jr, Dalayna Chapman, Tommie Muskgrow Jr., Chanae Chapman, David Chapman, Davion Chapman, Davin Chapman-Finkley, Giovanni Chapman-Finkley, Kadija Chapman, Shedric Chapman, Monya and Phoenix Sanders. He will be remembered for his big heart, larger-than-life personality, and the unforgettable memories he created with those blessed enough to know him.
